"The Deal" project

Postby Whiterook » Wed May 13, 2015 10:00 pm

I'm in the midst of gathering components to a huge project I am planning for the Summer: A 1/48 scale diorama build depicting the epic "Deal" scene in the WWII movie, "Kelly's Heroes"!

It will feature metal miniatures from Oniria Miniatures, of the United Kingdom...with the key figures of Kelly, Big Joe, Oddball, and the SS tank commander. I've done a respectible number of figures in my works to date but, these will require me to significanly up my game! These were purchased tonight, at a decent cost of around $30 USD.

Next up will be to purchase a 1/48 scale Tiger I....which will be the largest armor piece I've built to date. So far, the likely kit will be from AFV Club...

The diorama will definitely be in the town square, in front of the bank. It will be scratch-built, and I intend to make it fairly detailed. In fact, I anticipate the dio base will take far longer to build than the other major components.

The goal is, as an entry in the IPMS show next Spring at the Wings & Wheels of Western Massachusetts show.

I'll have a Follow as I Build thread when I start :D

This will be cool to watch come together. Nice looking figures BTW! A guy over at WAF did this in 1/72 a while back and that looked good, should look great in 1/48! Good luck on your build and have fun!

Thanks, Mike....I'm looking forward to the build. I just got word the figures are shipping from the UK. And just a moment ago, I order the AFV Club Tiger I....

...it should be in mid-June.

I'm starting to research the scene and will make up some sketches for the diorama :)

Looking forward to seeing it come together. When I can get some more paint, I will finally finish my Hetzer model. I am going to try to paint it to look like the real one I saw at a tank museum:

I have to say I'm looking forward to seeing this come together and as I'm not much of a figure painter it will be interesting to see how you approach them

Those who fail to learn from history are condemned to repeat it, Those who fail to learn history correctly...........Why they are simply doomed

Thanks all! I have the components (Tiger and figures) and will be starting it soon; I've got a couple projects that need finishing first. I'm going on the assumption that my metal figure painting in 28mm might have prepaed me enough to do a good job...we will see!
