Sabresquadron: Rapid Deployment

Postby josta59 » Wed Aug 05, 2015 4:23 pm

'Allo, gents. I've just acquired the free Sabresquadron 40-page introductory rule set for company-level miniatures games from the Cold War to now. Just email them at info@sabresquadron.com for your own set.

The full game was set for a spring release, and I guess we're still waiting for it. I wasn't even aware of these rules until yesterday. I'm halfway through reading them, and I'm excited to try them. I've already set up a virtual table. Going to make an effort to be a slightly more traditional miniatures wargamer for a little while, see how I like it (but still without actual miniatures).

They also sent me markers to print and use, and they have army lists at their website, sabresquadron.com.

This game was reviewed here last fall, including an AAR with lots of pictures: http://www.outpostzero.net/2014/10/review-sabre-squadrons-rapid-deployment.html. They seem to like it a lot better than Flames of War.

The authors seem to know their stuff, so check it out if interested.

For anyone interested in this game, a new version of the fast-play Rapid Deployment rules was released today and can be downloaded here: http://www.sabresquadron.com/rd.pdf

A quick glance revealed little new. I did notice new bits added to the "Unit & Force Cohesion" section regarding unit command area and force break point. Also, the quick-reference charts in the back of the previous version are missing from this one.

A new Sabresquadron forum was also announced: http://www.sabresquadron.com/forum. It just opened today.
