Paradiso Campaign Activity Log

Postby Frizzenspark » Thu Oct 04, 2012 9:42 pm

We met at Ravenstone Games in Columbus, Ohio Darkeldar vs Wuxia in what can be described as more of a test run and practice for the upcoming Paradiso Campaign.

Image

Darkeldar was the Yu Jing player (pronounced “dju tching”)

In his army was a Celestial Guard in control of four Kuang Shi soldiers (the name given to soulless zombies in Southern China. The current incarnation of the Kuang Shi are quite similar) they are loaded with incendiary explosives, provided with a cheap Chain Rifle and assigned a target. Their explosives are equipped with a remote activation control. The Celestial Guard responsible for watching them carries a control device allowing him to detonate them whenever he wants.

Another Celestial Guard with a Spitfire (a destructive rapid fire weapon)

Two Aragoto Senkenbutai, High-Speed impetuous Bikers with really nasty weapons

and finally..... A SÙ-JIÀN Immediate Action Unit (think of a small transformer). The Sù-Jiàn’s variable morphology allows it to exploit both the incredible speed and movement capabilities of its High Mobility shape and the more lethal and precise qualities of its Combat form.

Wuxia was in command of a Pan Oceana force comprising of

An Orc troop: a veteran multi-purpose heavy infantry

A Nisses: a battle-hardened all-terrain veterans of the Tactical Assault Group designated for protection and Advanced Force operations.

A Hexas: The Hexas conduct covert paramilitary operations, destabilization missions, training of rebel troops, key target abductions, interrogation sessions, and ‘termination of targets with extreme prejudice’… the classic catalogue.

The Peacemaker Armbot with Auxbot: attack Remotes used by the PanOceanian Military Complex. They are designed to be faster than Heavy Infantry troopers while carrying support weaponry, but lighter and cheaper than a T.A.G. The Peacemaker, will coordinate attacks with its Auxbot to lay down an unceasing barrage.

An Auxilia: all-purpose light infantry soldier, supplied with an Auxbot. This small Remote acts like a linking device and anti-intrusion detector, as well as being a mobile armament platform.

And a Fusilier soldier....

THE ACTION

ImageImage

The two Aragoto bikes, being impetuous, are forced to take free impetuous moves which take place before regular orders are distributed...... they moved forward and attacked the Auxilia soldier.....killing him and silencing the accompanying auxbot.

The Celestial guard deployed the Kuang Shi soldiers forward under the protection of a smokescreen; normally impetuous, the Kuang Shi soldiers were under control and linked, conserving precious orders.

The Sù-Jiàn moved forward into battle, converted to Combat form and fired upon the Peacemaker Armbot, scoring a critical hit.... The Peacemaker Armbot and its auxbot were rendered inert... but fortunately, the Armbot did not explode.

The Pan Oceana turn did not proceed with much success.... hits scored against the Kuang Shi soldiers were effectively ignored..... The Kuang Shi are “dogged” troops.... and could be kept alive by the expenditure of orders.......

The turn was otherwise spent adjusting to the intitial critical losses..... :(

The last major action was a fight pitting the Fusilier and the Orc trooper against the ambling Kuang Shi .... one of of the Kuang Shi exploded, nearly setting off a chain reaction of explosions... The Kuang Shi manage to get within range to use their chain guns.... a double hit on the Orc troop brings him to room temperature.

This was more of a practice/test run so no tactical criticism is called for here...

between the players and observers, we picked up critical knowledge in the use of smoke, the use o linked soldiers, and the use of impetuous troops. Other critical skills and general bits of knowlegdge were acquired in this match.....

And note my list does not follow the rules, as either the Aragoto cannot be part of an ISS list, or (currently) generic Yu Jing cannot form link teams. But this was a lab to explore impetuous and link team rules.

There was one thing I did wrong, but the net effect would have been the same. I had two Kuang-Shi that had a LOF to the ORC, and had them each fire a burst of Chain Rifle fire at the ORC. Actually during the active turn, only the link leader could have fired at the ORC, but being part of a link team of at least three units, he would get to fire an additional burst. So two templates would have been placed anyways.

Next week someone else will get to try out how link teams work.
All the best freaks are here, stop staring at me!
