Command Con 2011

Postby 50th » Mon Apr 25, 2011 10:44 am

Command Con 2011
November 2011 Date:TBA
Place: St Louis Mills Mall (if they have it at the same place as last year! It's still TBA)
Organization: Big Muddy Historical Gamers Alliance (Big Muddy=Missouri River)

Last year at this Con I ran a "Operation Crusader" campaign and "Disaster at Dieppe" Memoir 44 overlord game. Here are a couple of pictures:

This is the playing board for a game I played (not mine) using something called Combat Rules

Here are my M-3 Stuart Lignt Tanks that were wiped out by a hidden anti-tank gun!

Here are my Crusaders that were wiped out by anti-tank guns and Infantry:

Even though I lost in this game badly, I still had a blast!

Very nice! I have to confess that I've never heard of the "Combat Rules" system....sounds like home-gown fare, to me. I Googled them but nothing. Anything somilar to Axis & Allies Miniatures, Command Decision, Battlefront WWII, or Flames of War?

I like that Tide of Iron board. At 1st glance I thought it was painted felt hex map but looking closer it appears they are mdf or thick cardboard. Are they custom design or out of the box?

The maps were map boards out of the box. The 3D buildings were heavy paper, printed out from a computer printer, I think. The people who put this game on also had some cool looking sandbags and wire. Tide of Iron has cardboard pieces for wire, sandbags, and wire. This was also a double-blind game. Another board was set up in the exact same way on the American side of the wall. Whenever a move on one side was made, a GM set up the same move on the other side. In this way, units that were camouflaged were not seen until they fired or moved out of camouflage! I moved a squad of infantry and was prevented from doing so by two squads on opportunity fire!

Some more (re-sized) photos of games I didn't play in at the con:
The WWI airplane game that "everyone" is playing these days:

Another "Double-Blind" game (I don't remember the rules system):

Either American Revolution or French war with England (don't know rules system):
Image

WWIII in 1948! (don't know the system) Soviet T-34 tanks vs English Centurion tanks (possibly others):

Another shot of dealers row:

It was just a lot of good fun!!

Well worth the wait for the pics, sounds and looks like you had a great time there, a tough loss or two but you had FUN!!

Cheers, was there any FoW being played there by chance as well?

No, didn't see any FoW. But I will be going to another con in late June that has a lot more games! I'll bet I run across a game or two there! I'll post pics from that one too when it comes.
