As in Squad Leader you could misure the terrain features in "levels". There are some possibile cases when an obstacle is between firer and its target: 1) obstacle is higher than firer and target = LOS blocked 2) obstacle is the same height as one of the unit but higher than the other = LOS...

When I found some blog like this http://www.castaliahouse.com/the-beauty-of-g-e-v/ I feel the urge to play again this little gem...this is a game with every aspect of a mechanized conflicted factored in with some little rules but it works like a charme.

A rather simple but effective LOS ruleset is the one in Gunslinger....maybe you'll find it somewhat clumsy but with few tries it'll works like a charm!
